10 Day Self-care


Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it's a simple concept in theory, it's something we very often overlook as a last priority but good self-care is actually key to an improved mood and reduced anxiety, which is something we could all use right now. 

We have been told by the Government to stay at home to keep our physical health safe but where does that leave the safety of our mental health? At this point you will more than likely have spent several weeks at home, with very limited access to your usual social rituals like hanging out with friends, visiting family and socialising in general, since these things are no longer allowed. A lot of us rely on routine outings such as seeing friends or family to give us our sense of connection with the outside world, and when we no longer have them it can make us feel trapped and alone. This is why self-care techniques are crucial in helping to manage the symptoms of many mental health problems that are triggered by sudden lifestyle changes. 

We all tend to think the worst of ourselves when under a lot of stress, but feeling anxious, low, scared, angry or frustrated are all normal reactions to the unprecedented and uncertain circumstances we are in. The next time you realise you're being too hard on yourself and feel like you need a break, try these simple practices for looking after yourself in isolation. You don’t have to follow them exactly or in this order but it’s a great starting point to help you focus on your wellbeing and find new ways of self-care. You may even find it more fun to follow along with a friend so you can talk about how you're finding it.
