About the Event
International Men’s Day (19th November) is an opportunity to raise awareness of issues that impact upon men, trans males and all who identify as male. The conception of masculinity has been rigidly defined historically, one which eludes the conception of vulnerability and fragility. This rigid construct of masculinity is underpinned by the ideal that masculine identity is one in which feeling is denied, therefore denying the inevitable experience of helplessness that is embedded into the human condition. To be human, regardless of gender, is to be vulnerable. This is the point, not the problem. This year's theme is Positive Male Role Models, and Student Advice and Welling is inviting you to share your ideas about what you think constitutes a flexible conception of masculinity and in what ways this is represented by masculine identities within our culture.
