Student

Representatives

WHAT IS A STUDENT REP?

One huge way in which we make sure that everyone has the opportunity to share their opinions is through the election of Student Representatives in each course and year.

Elected by peers, student Reps ensure that the voices of all students are heard and
provide a crucial link to University staff and management; enabling feedback, opinions and the thoughts of the students to be heard throughout the University.

This provides all of our students with a way of sharing their thoughts about their University experience and helping to implement necessary changes and make the big decisions that effect them and future generations of LAU students.

Our Student Reps speak with University management, course leaders, tutors and the Union in regular meetings throughout the year. They will speak and listen to their fellow students and take forward issues, problems and positive feedback from their course and University experience.

Our Student Reps are highly valued in their role and play an important part in creating positive change and making the University a great place to study.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

As a Student Rep you’ll get to learn and develop a whole host of skills that will make you stand out from the crowd in the world of employment. From leadership and communication skills, problem-solving and negotiations, collecting information and time management, to meeting etiquette and building confidence – the list goes on!

Not only does putting Student Rep on your CV look fantastic, but you will also get to meet different students from different courses, hopefully starting potential opportunities for collaboration and friendships.

The Union provides all Student Reps with training, support and advice throughout their time in the role! Whether this is how to get feedback from peers or advice on any issues.

HOW DO I BECOME A REP?

Are you interested in becoming a Student Rep? All students are able to nominate themselves to stand as a Student Rep for their course.

All you have to do is nominate yourself at the start of the academic year in your class, say why you’d make a good Rep and then everyone will vote. Once your tutor has put your name forward to the Union they will be in contact with you regarding Student Rep Training.

I AM A REP

WHO IS MY STUDENT REP/
HOW DO I SHARE MY FEEDBACK?

Each course will have multiple reps in each level. To find out who your Student Rep is then either email the Students Union or simply as your tutor or course leader.

There are opportunities throughout the year to present your ideas for events, activities and feedback to the Students' Union! You can do this by speaking directly to your Student Rep, the Union team or by approaching your Student Exec Officers or sending your ideas through to us email at student.union@leeds-art.ac.uk
