LAU Communities

Here at Leeds Arts Union we want to give you opportunities to meet new people at the University outside of your course areas. Unlike our LAU Societies, our LAU Communities are not run by a student leader but instead work as drop-in style events in an open space. Learn more about our two current LAU Communities and how to get involved below!

HELLO CAFE

Making that first step into your course at Leeds Arts University is an exciting time, but you may have lots of questions. You may also be in your second or third year and wanting to meet some new people. Whatever your circumstances, welcome to Hello Cafe!

Every Wednesday afternoon of the first term in the Union space from 1 – 2pm starting from the 25th of September.

Come and join us for some free refreshments and creative activities while you meet new people, find out about what’s going on at the uni, ask any questions and settle into uni life.

Through attending Hello cafe you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Create your own creative social network;

  • Meet with new or returning LAU students from your course or beyond, both from the UK and international;

  • Meet people who can help signpost you to relevant support, advice and guidance when you need it.

If you would like to attend Hello Cafe, just pop into the Union space at the end of the Blenheim Walk Café on Wednesday afternoons!

MY/YOUR/OUR SPACE

My/Your/Our Space started in 2023/24 as a creative and social space for students who identify as a person of colour or coming from a minoritised ethnicity, and are looking to connect.

Every Thursday afternoon in term time in the Union space from 12:30 – 1:30pm starting from the 26th of September.

Uniting as a strong community, come and join us for free refreshments and shape the space to work for you: to present your work and get feedback, engage in creative activities (such as creating videos and zines), discussions, film screenings, open mic, games, invited academic and culture-based talks, and more.

Beyond this safer space, there is also an opportunity to host events open to the wider university, for example celebrating cultural festivals and important dates.
