About the Event

Big Talk is back with Hope Virgo! In this talk entitled ‘Body Language: How You Talk To Yourself’ Hope will be focusing on the language we use when talking to ourselves about our bodies. Discussing how her own experiences lead her to adapt her own inner voice; Hope shares the skills she has developed to manage her own wellbeing and aims to empower others to do the same, encouraging us to celebrate our bodies and all they represent. Beyond the scope of simply accepting how we look, Body Language aims to explore the link between how we view our bodies and the effect this can have on how we view ourselves, our identity and our place in the world.

Hope Virgo is the author of Stand Tall Little Girl, and a multi award-winning international leading advocate for people with eating disorders. Hope helps young people and employers (including schools, hospitals and businesses) to deal with the rising tide of mental health issues which affect one in four people. Hope is also a recognised media spokesperson, having appeared on various platforms including BBC Newsnight, Victoria Derbyshire, Good Morning Britain, Sky News and BBC News.

Please be aware – Eating Disorders may be discussed in this talk as part of Hope's personal story. For any questions or support please reach out to us at student.union@leeds-art.ac.uk or Student Welfare.
