LGBTQIA+ RESOURCES
Here at Leeds Arts University we truly value all of our students and how diverse our community is, which is why we've put together this support section for our LGBT+ community. Whether you need someone to talk to, help with accessing services, or support in coming to terms with your identity, we have collated a list of resources that could help you.

In a 2018 report from Stonewall, 42% of LGBT+ students (that's 2 out of 5) admitted to having hidden their identity at university for fear of discrimination, which is why we want to ensure that your time here is valuable and free of fear!
​
We foster a zero-tolerance policy at Leeds Arts University, which is why we have no place for hate, and champion supporting you and your mental well being whilst you're here. If you need on-campus support, both our door and the Student Welfare team are always open and here to help you where we can. A youth group which welcomes all trans, non-binary, gender variant and questioning people between the ages of 13-21.
YORKSHIRE MESMAC
Yorkshire MESMAC offers support and social groups, including health services to LGBT+ people.

TransLeeds is a support and advocacy group for trans* identifying people in Leeds and the surrounding area, as well as their families and friends. They aim to provide practical help with all stages and aspects of transition.
NON-BINARY LEEDS
Non-Binary Leeds is a peer-led support and social group for non-binary people in Leeds and the surrounding areas. They provide practical and emotional support in a safer, friendly environment.

A safe and supportive space for the LGBT+ community to share your thoughts and feelings and discuss coping strategies, alongside other LGBT+ people.

Sarbat Yorkshire is an LGBT-friendly group for Sikhs.

ACTION FOR TRANS HEALTH
Action for Trans Health is a U.K based organisation which aims to improve trans access to healthcare through funding 'access to healthcare' grants and through engagement with trans communities and medical professionals.

SWITCHBOARD LGBT+ HELPLINE
Switchboard LGBT+ helpline offers a place for calm words when you need them most.

GALOP
Galop is the LGBT+ anti-violence charity, supporting lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer people who have experienced hate crime, sexual violence or domestic abuse. They can help with questions about the criminal justice system.
BLACK GIRL DANGEROUS
Black Girl Dangerous is an online magazine by and for queer and trans people of colour. The site is no longer updated but has a huge archive of opinion and advice articles.
AKT CHARITY
A support service for LGBT+ people aged between 16-25 who are living in a hostile environment.

The LGBT Foundation helpline offers a supportive ear to LGBT+ people with something on their mind or who are in crisis
MERMAIDS
Mermaids supports young people up to 19 years old experiencing gender identity issues, and their families and professionals involved in their care. They also offer a Crisis Textchat, available 24/7 - text MERMAIDS to 85258

DIVERSE CHURCH
a supportive community of over 600 LGBT+ Christians in the UK and Ireland. They aim to be a pastoral/mission resource for the wider church so that LGBT+ people do not give up on God or life.

Stonewall offers information and support for LGBT+ communities and their allies.

TranzWiki is a comprehensive directory of the groups campaigning for, supporting or assisting trans and gender non-conforming individuals, including those who are non-binary and non-gender, as well as their families across the UK.
